Graham Stevens

I was born in August 1952 and three months later in November the first British Music Charts were published and so I guess that I was always going to have a lifelong association with music.

My favourite decade is the 1970’s, presumably because I was 18 years old in 1970 and started to really appreciate music for the first time.

The 70’s however were also, probably, the most diverse decade taking us from post Beatles through Glam Rock to Punk and ultimately Disco.

My favourite band also were at their peak during this time with three number ones in the UK charts – they are 10cc.

I first started presenting music as a DJ in a club from 1978 to 1982 the height of the disco era.

I moved to New Zealand in 2004 and just over a year later joined Coast Access Radio presenting the Comedy Half Hour which I still do to this day.

In 2009 I started a fortnightly programme called Showcase which focused on show tunes, film and television music.

This was closely followed by Melodies for You which was on alternate weeks.

In 2014 I merged the two shows and they became Graham Stevens Presents which is on weekly at 1.30pm on a Sunday (repeated at 9.00pm Thursday).

I also present the Morning Show from 8.00am to 10.00am on a Monday and Drive Time 4.00pm to 7.00pm alternate Fridays.

From September 2016 I will be presenting a live version of Showcase on Saturday afternoon from 3.00pm to 4.00pm – this will take the form of a magazine style show giving information about the local entertainment scene whilst playing stage and screen music.

I do not believe that there is any bad music – just music you enjoy and my tastes extend from the classical to hard rock and everything in between – that is why on my shows you might hear just about anything!!
