Graham Stevens has hosted many programmes here at Coast Access Radio in New Zealand, but originally he was from the United Kingdom.
“I was born in August 1952 and three months later in November the first British Music Charts were published and so I guess that I was always going to have a lifelong association with music.”
His favourite decade is the 1970’s. He describes this as the era where he really started to appreciate music for the first time. He also describes it as the diverse decade that took us from post Beatles through Glam Rock to Punk and ultimately Disco. His favourite band 10CC was also at their peak at this time with three number ones in the UK charts.
He first started presenting music as a DJ in a club from 1978 to 1982 the height of the disco era.
He moved to New Zealand in 2004 and just over a year later joined Coast Access Radio presenting the Comedy Half Hour which he still does today. In 2009 he started a fortnightly programme called Showcase, which focused on show tunes, film and television music. This was closely followed by Melodies for You which was on alternate weeks.
In 2014 he merged the two shows which became ‘Graham Stevens Presents’. This show still airs weekly at 1.30-2.30pm Sundays (with repeats during the following week). He also presents ‘The Morning Show’ from 8-10am on Mondays, followed by his half hour show ‘Showcase’, as well as ‘Welcome to the Weekend’ from 1-4pm Fridays.
When talking about his shows, Graham says “I do not believe that there is any bad music – just music you enjoy and my tastes extend from the classical to hard rock and everything in between – that is why on my shows you might hear just about anything!!”
